Local Food Guide

Compiled every two years, the Adams County Local Foods Resource Guide is intended to connect customers with farms, markets and products in order to improve health while building a more sustainable local food system.

Healthy Options

What: $50 in vouchers every month for 4 months in the summer to buy anything in the Adam’s County Farmer’s Market. Also, $50 in vouchers every month for 4 months in the fall and winter to buy fresh fruits and veggies at any Kennie’s Marketplace (Gettysburg, Littlestown, Biglerville).

Dates: June-October and November-April

Eligibility: Based on annual income and number of people in the home

Register: Apply in the fall (August/September) to qualify for the whole year. You can get an application by contacting Grace, Casa de la Cultura, WellSpan, SCCAP, or other programs.

SNAP Double Dollars

What: Double the amount of money that you want to spend in the Adam’s County Farmer’s Market with your EBT (SNAP) card, up to $20 at a time

When: Saturdays, 8am-1pm, May-October

Where: Adam’s County Farmers Market, 108 N. Stratton St., Gettysburg (behind Rabbit Transit center)

Contact: Reza Djalal, in the yellow market tent.

Eligibility: Have an EBT card (in your name or your child’s)

How to use it: Go to the yellow tent with your card and you will receive tokens (double the amount you charge) to spend in the market.


SNAP Fruit and Veggie Bucks

What: a 50% discount off of $25 worth of veggies and fruits from Kennie’s Market

When: October-May

Where: Kennie’s Marketplace (Gettysburg, Biglerville, and Littlestown)

Contact: Visit the customer service desk in a Kennie’s, call 717-334-7634 ext.131, or get an application from SCCAP food pantry

Eligibility: Have an active EBT card

How to use this: Apply starting September 1st in Kennie’s Marketplace at the customer service desk. Then shop between October 4th, 2021 and May 31, 2022 using your Kennie’s card and EBT card to receive the discount.

SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program)

What: Assistance for eligible, low-income families to supplement their food budget so they can purchase food

Where: In grocery stores and farmers markets authorized to accept SNAP. Look for the signs that say “we accept SNAP benefits”

Contact: County Assistance Office - 717-334-6241

Apply: online, call 1-866-550-4355, or fill out a paper application in the County Assistance Office.

Eligibility: Whoever will receive the benefits must be a citizen/have a Social Security Number (SSN); eligibility is based on income, number of people in the home, and assets.

How to use it: If you meet all requirements, you will receive can Electronic Benefit Transfer card (EBT). The benefits will be deposited on the card each month during the time you are approved to receive them.

IMPORTANT NOTE!! Right now with COVID, SNAP is not a part of Public Charge, but NORMALLY SNAP negatively impacts Public Charge, so IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to consult your immigration lawyer BEFORE applying for benefits

What: A community garden to grow and care for plants

When: March-October

Where: Gettysburg College campus

SCCAP Food Pantries

What: One bag of food per month.

Hours: Mon., Wed., Fri. 9am-3:30pm

Address: 153 N. Stratton St., Gettysburg, PA 17325, behind SCCAP main office, (more locations)

Apply: Inquire when you arrive; based on number of people in the home and income for the past month.

*NOTE DUE TO COVID: Currently not considering income; normally you can select the food you would like, but for safety, it is just one prepared bag

SCCAP Gleaning Project

What: Free produce stand with fruits and vegetables

Hours: Mon., Wed., Fri. 9am-3:30pm

How/Who: If you need assistance, please call the Center you live closest to.  You may need to leave a message, but please allow staff time to get back in touch with you.  You must live within our service area in order to receive assistance.

**COVID-19 NOTE: The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) recognizes that many families are fighting with the economic impact of COVID-19. As a result, USDA has made an expansion to the school lunch program that allows that all local school districts serve FREE lunches to all of the students each school day, regardless of economic status of the family, tentatively until December 31, 2020. This expansion allows schools to serve a FREE breakfast and lunch each school day to every student.


Campus Kitchen

What: Free hot meals provided at certain programs, prepared by students of Gettysburg College.

When: Following schedule of partner program.
